How to Install

Isolecta Installation information

» Isolecta thermal insulation flooring boards have a blue core made from HCFC free extruded polystyrene rigid foam. Isolecta is a lightweight thermal insulation board designed especially for use with electrical under floor heating including T2Blue-10 W/m heating cable and T2QuickNet heating mat with tiles and natural stone floors on top.

Isolecta: sub floor preparation for concrete, cement and wood

Clean the surface from dust and dirt.

Foresee an elastic joint between the wall and the insulation board.

Prime the floor surface with a standard primer and follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

Installation of insulation board on cement based sub floors, or concrete or wooden sub floors

First install a thin contact layer on the sub floor by using a suitable cement based adhesive ClassC2F. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions. In a second step apply the adhesive to the sub floor for each board by using a trowel with notch sizes of 8 mm and put a thin contact layer on the backside of the board which will be laid in the adhesive.

The Insulation boards are to be laid directly onto this adhesive and bedded in so that no voids remain underneath. The boards should be laid so the joints are staggered (minimum 500 mm) and they must not bridge any movement joints, of which the integrity must be preserved. If necessary, adjust the boards size with a knife.

Only for cement based or concrete sub floors The edges and the centre of the board must be fixed with Isolecta Fixing pins (5 pcs per sqm) immediately after the board is glued. Use a drilling machine (Ø 8 mm).

Only for wooden sub floors When the adhesive has set, the boards should be given additional strength from screw fixing at a rate of 5 screws per square meter. Note that the screws are to be applied at least (a minimum of) 30 mm from the board’s edge. Proprietary washers should be used, with the countersunk screws being tightened until the head is flush with the board surface. In wet areas it is strongly recommended sealing the holes with silicone before fixing the floor heating to the Isolecta boards.

Waiting time: wait until the adhesive is cured. Important! Follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

For cement based, concrete or wooden sub floors Use a self-adhesive net band to cover the joints between the insulation boards.

Tiling

Install T2QuickNet heating mat according its instructions

Install T2Blue heating cable according its instructions.
Recommendation: Use of hot melt glue for fixing T2Blue on the insulation board. Note: The time for curing could be longer due to the board’s isolating effect.

Alternative: Use plastic cable spacer with a distance of 30-50 cm between the cable fixing points.

Prepare the floor for tiling as demanded. Tiles must have a minimum size of 10x10 cm and must be at least 7 mm thick.
