EMERGENCY POWER SUPPLY
Emergency generators are brought into play when regular power fails, and are the backbone of the systems that provide time for a safe evacuation of occupants, and power to operate the life safety and fire fighting systems.
FIRE PUMPS
Perhaps the most important fire fighting piece of equipment, the fire pump ensures water pressure for the sprinkler system in the storeys above the effective level of city pressure. Mechanically tough, fire-rated wiring is needed for this critical circuit.
PRESSURIZING FANS AND SMOKE DAMPERS
For stairwells and other areas of safe refuge, pressurization fans and smoke dampers provide a positive pressure to maintain a smoke free area of safe refuge with clean air for breathing, and visibility for egress.
SMOKE VENTING FANS
Smoke is the major threat because of loss of visibility and air to breathe, and fans to remove smoke are of crucial importance.
EMERGENCY LIGHTING
When normal power is disrupted in a tunnel fire, the chances of safe egress or firefighting in the dark go down dramatically. Emergency lighting provides the back-up for the normal lighting.
FIRE ALARM
The National Fire Alarm Code stipulates that in Voice Evacuation Fire Alarm systems, the wiring for the notification circuits shall be 2-hour fire rated. Fire Alarm wiring designed to meet the survivability requirement for notification circuits is required.
SERVICE ENTRANCE
System1850-SE provides a solution to the problems associated with concrete encasing new services into existing buildings. The size and inflexibility of conduit alone, quite apart from the difficulty of encasement in very difficult locations, makes System 1850-SE an ideal solution in many cases.
POWER FEEDERS
The space savings achievable using MI versus conduit and wire are huge - up to 80% space saving. In addition, the ease with which MI can be pulled into difficult runs with tight corners give it an overwhelming advantage.
LOW EMI
Electromagnetic fields from high electrical currents in equipment, bus-duct or feeders can cause interference in PC screens and sensitive electronic equipment located adjacent to the source of the EMI.
The time to evacuate a high-rise building is largely indeterminate, because of slow response by occupants and panic and confusion created by smoke and loss of power. Directed/phased evacuation is incresingly being implemented by Fire Departments in higher occupancy buildings, where the evacuation is controlled and coordinated with firefighting efforts, to prevent people entering higher risk areas. For this reason the emergency circuits and fire alarm system notification circuits become all the more important, and must maintain integrity throughout the fire.
Tyco Thermal Controls offers a complete range of fire-rated cable to meet these requirements. In addition to fire-rated products, Tyco Thermal Controls offers non-fire rated products designed to fit into incredibly small spaces, without the need for space-consuming conduits - ideal for retrofit of power feeders.
In commercial buildings where the Electromagnetic interference from power feeders can represent a problem, Tyco Thermal Controls has a unique solution that eliminates the problem!
By retrofitting additional electrical service capacity, the conventional requirement to encase conductors in concrete may not be feasible. For these circumstances, Tyco Thermal Controls has another system that has been accepted as an alternative by the Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) in several larger cities across the country.
